SOUND

Sayonakidori (the Japanese word for nightingale) is a project by the MMLAB theatre company from Lithuania (composer and director Agne Matuleviciute, choreographer Pawel Sakowicz and producer Rusne Kregzdaite). The project was inspired by Nightingale floor in Nijō castle, Kyoto. Artists are visiting Japan and doing sound and movement study while meeting Japanese artists from different fields: from traditional  kōwakamai dancer and kabuki theatre makers to organ makers and sculptors. Part of the research was implied in MiSHŌ Fujino residency, where artists had interviews with the community members and facilitated workshops for them. Also, the sound  and movement installation was presented in Shinmei Shrine. The premier in Japan (Fujino) was presented on 24th July, 2024.

The performance Sayonakidori (40 min performance with actors and musicians) will be presented in Lithuania March, 2025 and hopefully will also be presented in Japan next year.

The project partners: Embassy of Lithuania in Japan, Lithuanian council for culture, Vilnius city municipality, LATGA.

Special thanks for to Vika Mnozina Hashimoto and Kohei Hoshimoto, Yoshida Yukihiko, Keika Wakayagi, Gabija Cepulionyte, and all the Japanese artists that have shared their experiences.
